One of the reasons I'm so glad that [there's a word for the thing](/2017/Feb/a-beacon-through-the-darkness-or-getting-it-right-the-first-time/) is that I find the leading alternative candidate words, _transvestite_ or _crossdresser_, to be deeply misleading as to the nature of the phenomenon.
Moreover, crossdressing doesn't actually work.
